Bondi Beach, NSW Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026
Bondi is a selective yes today: worthwhile for divers and reasonably promising for fishing or sailing, but a poor trade for casual surf, small-boat and paddle plans once the southerly gets hold. This is a wind-and-chop day, not a “she’ll be right” day. The water is comparatively mild at 20.3°C, about 1.6°C above average, but the surface is working. Representative southerlies are 15 knots with gusts to 32 knots, and the strongest gusts are forecast around 13:00. Combined waves sit near 2.1m, including 1.6m wind waves at a short 5.8 seconds; that short-period component is the chief nuisance, adding lump and reducing the appeal of exposed transit, paddling and general boating. The 1.1m swell from 163° at 7.4 seconds is not especially long-period or orderly either. The day’s calmest wave height, about 1.3m, occurs near midnight—not a useful daylight loophole. Diving earns the day’s strongest activity estimate at 8.1/10, supported by the available clarity and water-temperature inputs in the model, but that score is not a safety clearance: wind-driven surface conditions and entry/exit exposure still deserve full respect. Fishing rates 6.7/10, helped by rising pressure and the available timing inputs; the more useful solunar major window is 09:49–11:49, with a smaller late-afternoon opportunity from 16:19–17:19. No tide data are available, so don’t pretend the tide is giving us a secret edge. Sailing scores 6.5/10, reflecting enough breeze to work with, though the gust spread and waves make it a day for capable crews rather than relaxed cruising. Surfing is only 3/10 in the regional break model: 2.1m of short, wind-affected sea is more complication than quality. Boating (4.5) and kayaking (4.3) have fallen sharply from yesterday’s much lighter-wind setup, when winds were 3.9 knots and their scores were 8.0 and 8.1. Atmospheric visibility is excellent near 41km, but that says nothing about underwater visibility. Thursday looks less windy but retains 1.3–1.9m waves; Friday eases further, while the clearest broad improvement arrives Saturday into Sunday as waves drop below 1.3m. Best bet: take the late-morning fishing window seriously, but take the southerly and its 32-knot gust potential even more seriously.
