Clayoquot Sound, BC Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026

Clayoquot Sound is a qualified go for sailors and a more selective proposition for everyone else: workable water, but with enough west-northwest wind and open-water swell to make route choice matter. Sailing leads the board at 8.7/10, while fishing is a respectable 6.9 and diving 6.6. Boating at 5.6 and kayaking at 5.1 deserve a more conservative read than the calm-looking forecast graphics might suggest. The best all-round daylight window is late morning, roughly 10 AM to noon. It overlaps the 10 AM–noon solunar major period and arrives around the 11:13 AM high tide of 3.28 m, with stable pressure near 1021 hPa. That is the day’s strongest fishing setup under the supplied scoring inputs, and it also suits shoreline exploring before the tide begins its afternoon fall. The next low, 1.17 m at 5:20 PM, offers the better low-water access window, with a 4:30–5:30 PM solunar minor period adding some timing interest for wildlife viewing. Wildlife scores 7.5/10, though that is a timing-and-conditions estimate, not a promise of encounters. The tradeoff is sea state. Waves run about 1.6 to 2.0 m through the day, driven chiefly by a 1.38 m west swell at 7.75 seconds, with smaller wind waves on top. WNW winds range from 9 to 19.4 knots and gust to 23.3 knots around 4 PM. That makes the afternoon the least appealing stretch for paddlers and smaller boats, especially in exposed water. The air is only about 12–13 C and feels closer to 9 C, while marine water sits at 13.2 C; dress for immersion, not the calendar. Cloud cover is near-total, despite forecast atmospheric visibility around 16.9 km; that visibility figure says nothing about underwater clarity. Compared with the reconstructed recent run, sailing holds yesterday’s strong 8.7 score, while boating and kayaking ease from yesterday’s 6.3 and 5.3 as winds build. Diving improves slightly from 6.1, but swell remains the limiting factor. Thursday stays breezy with similar seas; Friday looks rougher, with winds near 25 knots and waves potentially reaching 3.1 m. The quieter opening appears Sunday into Monday, when winds ease and waves settle near 1.1–1.4 m. Best bet: sail late morning around the high tide, then let the gustier afternoon belong to the gulls and the forecast.
