Reykjavik, Iceland Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026

Reykjavík harbor gets a qualified green light today: kayaking and boating are the best-supported choices, with light ESE wind and no rain indicated outweighing a cool, grey day and a persistent near-metre swell. Kayaking leads the activity scores at 8.2/10, with boating close behind at 7.9/10. Those are useful conditions, not a safety certificate—9.5°C water and 0.8–1.1m waves leave little room for casual preparation. The most comfortable water window is early, when the day’s calmest forecast wave height is 0.8m around midnight and winds remain within a generally modest 1.7–6.2 knots. Daylight begins in earnest after the 07:48 sunrise, and the 08:58–10:58 solunar major period gives anglers their best timed opportunity. Fishing rates only 5.6/10, however: the rising pressure near 1006 hPa and light wind help, but no tide data are available and the forecast does not turn this into a high-confidence bite window. Chlorophyll is elevated at 3.18 mg/m³, but that is not a fish report. For paddlers and boaters, the main tradeoff is exposure rather than wind. The swell is forecast at 0.92m with an 8.25-second period from the southwest, while wind waves are effectively absent. A small current, about 0.06 m/s toward the west, is not the headline; cold water is. Air temperatures only reach 7.7°C, feeling colder in the representative conditions, and cloud cover sits near complete. The reported 40 km atmospheric visibility should not be mistaken for underwater visibility. Diving earns a middling-to-decent 6.9/10: calm wind is welcome, but 9.5°C water and the swell demand a conservative read of entry and exit conditions. Sailing, at 5.6/10, has the opposite problem—pleasantly low gusts but not much working breeze. Wildlife scores 6.4/10, with the late-afternoon minor solunar period from 15:28–16:28 the better timed look before dusk at 19:33. This is a marked reset from the last two days’ stronger winds of 15.4 and 21.8 knots, and boating and kayaking scores have improved accordingly. Wednesday stays fairly manageable before a wet, gustier Thursday, with peak wind forecast near 24.7 knots. Best bet: launch early in the light wind, keep the cold-water margin generous, and be back alongside before the harbour’s grey afternoon starts asking harder questions.
