CatchWindow fishing intelligence
Cabo San Lucas, BCS Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026
Cabo San Lucas gets a qualified green light for powered boating and fishing, but the sea state keeps this from being a carefree small-craft day. Light northwest wind—generally 1.9 to 5.4 knots, with the strongest gusts near 12.6 knots around noon—makes the surface wind manageable. The larger issue is the 1.6 to 1.9 m wave field, driven mostly by a 1.4 m southwest swell at 7.25 seconds. That is enough motion to make exposed-water runs, launches, and returns more demanding than the gentle breeze suggests. Boating leads the activity scores at 7.4/10, with fishing close behind at 7.2. The most attractive fishing window is the 08:07-10:07 solunar major period, arriving after sunrise at 06:13 and before the day’s midday gust maximum. A second major period runs 20:07-22:07, though it is after sunset; the sea is forecast calmest near 22:00 at 1.58 m, but darkness is an obvious tradeoff. Pressure is steady near 1011 hPa, and the forecast carries no meaningful rainfall amount despite a noon-to-evening rain window. Kayaking and diving both sit at 6.6/10: workable, not automatic. The low wind helps, and marine water temperature is a very warm 30.9 C, but swell remains the limiting factor, especially around exposed entries and exits. Atmospheric visibility is forecast near 33 km, which is useful for navigation but says nothing about underwater visibility. Sailing rates 5.9/10; there is simply not much breeze to work with, while the swell still asks for attention. Wildlife scores 7.7/10, with the morning major period the cleanest daylight overlap. Compared with the reconstructed CatchWindow scores from October 5, boating is nearly unchanged, fishing improves slightly, while kayaking and diving ease back as waves build from the recent lighter-wind pattern. The coming days keep waves around 1.6-2.1 m through October 10, then trend rougher, reaching 2.0-3.2 m October 11-12; rain chances also stay elevated. Best bet: fish or run the boat early, use the 08:07-10:07 window, and treat the swell—not the wind—as the boss.
