Bergen’s harbor is a go day for almost everyone except surfers. Sailing and diving share the lead at 7.9, boating is a close 7.7, fishing and wildlife sit in the low sevens, kayaking is a more cautious 6.4, and surfing is the clear miss at 4.7 on water that barely moves. Those marks are suitability scores, not a safety brief. Current and forecast weather point to a representative north-northwesterly near 9 knots, with a day range from just over a knot up to 9.3 and the sharpest gust, about 18 knots, due at noon. That is useful power for a sail without turning the basin sloppy, which is why sailing outruns kayaking. Forecast seas stay tiny, 0.1 to 0.2 meters at a short 4.9-second period, with a west swell of only 0.08 meters; the lightest readings come near 02:00. A 0.4 meter-per-second current sets north-northwest. Surface water is about 15 degrees, eight-tenths cooler than average, so the high diving score is about light wind, flat waves, and available clarity, not tropical comfort. The practical tradeoff is that midday gust. Smaller craft and paddlers get a kinder window on the lighter morning breeze, or after noon eases, rather than in the middle of the harbor at 12:00. Fishing’s 7.3 is built from solunar timing, the firm pressure, the wind, and available clarity; tide data are simply not available. The major periods run 08:14 to 10:14 and 20:14 to 22:14, with minors around 02:44 and 14:44. Wildlife’s 7.4 uses those same solunar windows and the wind. Against yesterday’s reconstructed scores, fishing is up from 6.6, sailing from 7.1, and wildlife from 6.7 on a warmer, higher-pressure day; diving and boating hold even, kayaking slips a tick. Tuesday and Wednesday look quieter and warmer still, with peak winds of 5 to 6 knots, almost no rain, and waves still around a tenth of a meter. Rain chances rise from Thursday into the weekend as the breeze freshens a little and seas build toward 0.4 meters. Best bet: sail or dive on the morning ease, before that noon gust, and leave the board in the rack.
