Alitak, AK Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026

Alitak gets a clear green light for boats, with a qualified yes for paddlers and divers: this is a relatively manageable October water day, not a day to forget the cold. Boating leads the board at 8.5/10, helped by 0.5–0.7 m seas, no rain indicated, light-to-moderate WNW wind, and a bright, mostly clear forecast. Sailing is also strong at 7.8/10, though the breeze has enough unevenness—8 knots representative, gusting to 17, with the day’s strongest gusts near 19 knots around 3 PM—to keep it from being a lazy-sheet afternoon. The best all-around window is late morning through early afternoon. The 12:51 PM high tide coincides neatly with the 10:55 AM–12:55 PM solunar major period, while pressure is rising toward 1019.8 hPa. Fishing rates a respectable 6.5/10 on the supplied tide, wind, pressure and timing inputs; it is a worthwhile window, not a promise. For shoreline explorers, the 6:38 AM low tide offers the day’s broadest low-water opportunity, though dawn arrives at 7:54 AM and the air will feel closer to 3 C than the 5–8 C thermometer range suggests. Kayaking and diving both land at 7.2/10. The sea state is favorable by October standards, but 9.3 C marine water and short-period wave energy—0.58 m at 4.65 seconds, plus 0.36 m wind waves at 2.45 seconds—make exposure, launch timing and return plans more important than the modest wave height alone. Atmospheric visibility is excellent near 53 km, but that says nothing about underwater visibility. The calmest waves are forecast near 11 PM at 0.46 m, well after daylight has gone. Compared with the reconstructed recent run, today is a little less boat-friendly than October 6 but steadier than the wetter, windier setup that develops later this week. Thursday remains fairly workable with 0.4–0.8 m waves, then conditions deteriorate Friday through Sunday as winds rise, rain chances jump, and seas build to 1.1–1.5 m Saturday. A quieter-looking marine window returns Monday. Best bet: launch late morning, use the noon high tide, and be back in before the afternoon gusts decide they want a vote.
