Anchorage, AK Daily Water Report — October 5, 2026
Anchorage gets a solid go-for-it verdict on the water today, with the important footnote that calm does not mean casual in 9.1°C water. Boating leads the activity scores at 7.1/10, followed by diving at 6.8 and kayaking at 6.6. The sea state is about as cooperative as the numbers get: waves are running just 0.04 m, with only 0.02 m of wind wave, while north wind stays light at roughly 4 knots and peaks around 5.5 knots. That is excellent surface-water news, even under a thoroughly gray sky. The best broad window is from the late-morning low tide through the afternoon high, especially around the 4:19 PM high. The 9:34 AM low also lines up closely with the 8:56–10:56 AM solunar major period, giving anglers a useful timing overlap; fishing rates 6.3/10, unchanged from yesterday. A second solunar major period runs 8:56–10:56 PM, after the 7:23 PM sunset and near the 10:20 PM low, so it is a timing option rather than a daylight convenience. For paddlers, small-boat crews, and divers, the tradeoff is current rather than chop: the reported ocean current is 1.19 m/s toward 222 degrees. Plan around it rather than letting the glassy surface talk you into sloppy timing. Diving’s 6.8 score matches yesterday, but the cold water remains the main limiting factor; atmospheric visibility near 52.8 km says nothing about underwater visibility. Sailing is only a 5.5/10 proposition because there is scarcely enough breeze to make the sails earn their keep. Wildlife scores highest at 8.5/10, though that is down from yesterday’s 9.1. The low-tide period and light wind support the model, but it is not a promise of encounters. Pressure is rising from a low 993 hPa range, and temperatures top out near 9.6°C, warmer than the last few mornings but still raw when damp. The next three days stay very light-wind and nearly wave-free, though rain chances remain high Tuesday and Wednesday before easing Thursday. More consequential wave growth arrives Friday and Saturday, with Friday reaching 0.7 m and Saturday up to 1.0 m. Best bet: launch or paddle in the calm afternoon, time your return for the 4:19 PM high, and dress for water that has no interest in negotiating.
