CatchWindow fishing intelligence
Cordova, AK Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026
Cordova gets a solid go for boating and a favorable, if chilly, day for paddling; fishing is workable rather than electric, and the water deserves full cold-weather respect. Boating leads the board at 8/10, with kayaking at 7.4, wildlife at 7.2, fishing at 6.6 and sailing at 6.4. Those are suitability estimates, not safety clearances. The most useful daylight window is late morning, especially around the 9:31–11:31 AM solunar major period and the 11:27 AM high tide. Winds are forecast to stay modest, generally 4.5–7.8 knots from the east, while the pressure rises toward 1011 hPa. That is a friendlier setup than the raw calendar might suggest, though gusts have reached 20.6 knots around midnight and a 17-knot representative gust means exposed water can still have opinions. Seas are manageable but not glassy: wave heights run about 0.7–0.9 m, with a 0.46 m southerly swell at 5.75 seconds and short wind waves layered in. The calmest forecast is near 11 PM at 0.7 m, after dark and therefore more useful as a marine trend than a launch invitation. The 9.8 C marine water is the day’s non-negotiable detail; air temperatures only reach 8.9 C, with a representative feels-like temperature near 4 C. Dress and plan for immersion, not for the pleasant-looking 18.6 km atmospheric visibility. For fishing, the late-morning major period coincides neatly with the high water, while the 4:01–5:01 AM minor period overlaps the very low 4:42 AM tide and darkness. The afternoon minor period, 4:01–5:01 PM, lands near the 5:11 PM low, offering another tide-focused option before dusk. Wildlife conditions are also respectable around the low-tide windows, though wind and footing still set the terms. Compared with recent CatchWindow estimates, boating and kayaking improve from October 5, while fishing is only slightly better and wildlife is about steady. Sailing also edges up, helped by lighter winds than the breezier October 3 setup. Wednesday and especially Thursday look progressively calmer on the marine forecast, with Thursday’s 0.3–0.5 m waves standing out; rain chances remain a factor, and rougher water returns by the weekend. Best bet: launch late morning around the rising-to-high tide, enjoy the modest seas, and treat that 9.8 C water like it is in charge—because it is.
