Port Manatee, FL Daily Water Report — October 8, 2026

Port Manatee gets a solid go for boating and kayaking, with a caveat: the water is small, but the afternoon gusts may be punchier than the representative 6-knot ESE wind suggests. Boating leads the board at 8.4/10 and kayaking follows at 7.8/10, supported by 0.2–0.3 m seas, a modest current of about 0.14 m/s toward 225°, and no meaningful rainfall expected in the forecast data. The cleanest all-purpose stretch looks to be early, from dawn through late morning, before the day’s strongest gust potential builds. Winds range from 2.4 to 12 knots, but gusts could reach 22.5 knots around 2 PM—enough to turn a relaxed paddle or open-deck run into a more attentive affair despite the low wave heights. Conditions settle toward the day’s calmest seas near 7 PM, when waves are forecast around 0.22 m, though fading light becomes the tradeoff after the 7:11 PM sunset. For anglers, the 5.5/10 score is middling rather than miserable. The better timing aligns with the late-morning solunar major period from 10:49 AM to 12:49 PM, overlapping the 12:36 PM high tide. A second major period runs 10:49 PM to 12:49 AM, well after daylight. Pressure is rising from around 1010 hPa, while the tide has a relatively modest range, from a 0.28 m morning low to a 0.71 m midday high. That is workable water movement, not a drumroll. Diving rates 7/10 on the supplied model, helped by 28.5 C marine SST and low seas, but the very high chlorophyll reading of 6.14 mg/m³ is a meaningful water-clarity concern. Atmospheric visibility near 12.4 km does not answer the underwater-visibility question. Sailors get a 6.3/10: enough breeze to move, perhaps, but a broad gust spread and heavy cloud cover make it less of a set-it-and-forget-it day. Compared with the reconstructed recent scores, boating and kayaking are a little softer than yesterday, while sailing improves from 5.1/10. The next two days bring higher rain chances and building seas, especially Saturday at 0.5–0.7 m; calmer water returns Sunday into early next week. Best bet: launch early, enjoy the small water before the afternoon gusts get ideas, and be back with plenty of daylight to spare.
