St. Petersburg, FL Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026
St. Petersburg gets a clear green light for getting on the water, with the best fit for boaters and sailors and a respectable, if not flawless, day for paddlers, divers and anglers. The sea state is the headline: waves run just 0.1 to 0.2 m, with the calmest stretch near 10 AM at 0.12 m. An ENE wind around 9 knots, gusting to 13, supplies enough breeze for sailing without making the water lumpy; sailing rates 8/10, boating 7.8/10 and kayaking 7.2/10. The most useful daytime window is from dawn through late morning. Dawn arrives at 7:02 AM, sunrise is 7:26, and the late-morning high tide of 0.74 m lands at 11:15 AM. That overlaps the 9:14–11:14 AM solunar major period, giving anglers their best-timed opportunity of the day within a 6.3/10 fishing outlook. Pressure is falling from around 1013 hPa, however, and the strongest gusts are forecast around 8 AM at 15.2 knots, so the early launch is pleasant rather than perfectly glassy. Divers have a 7/10 outlook in 28.5 C marine water and very small waves, but should not confuse the reported 14.2 km atmospheric visibility with underwater clarity. CoastWatch chlorophyll is very high at 5.56 mg/m³, indicating bloom conditions; that is a water-quality and visibility consideration, not a promise of marine activity. Wildlife scores 7.9/10, with the 3:44–4:44 PM minor solunar period leading toward the 6:32 PM low tide. The afternoon carries the main tradeoff. Rain is forecast in the 1–10 PM window, under full cloud cover, and the evening low tide drops sharply to 0.13 m. Plan routes, launches and returns with that reduced water level in mind. Conditions are a touch less easy than the last two days for boating and kayaking, when winds were lighter, while sailing improves notably from yesterday’s 6.7/10. Looking ahead, very low waves persist Wednesday and Thursday, but rain chances stay above 80% and winds approach 15 knots. Friday into the weekend turns breezier, with waves building toward 0.3–0.5 m by Sunday; Monday currently looks warmer, drier and lighter-winded. Best bet: launch after dawn, use the 9:14–11:14 AM tide-and-solunar overlap, and be headed in before the afternoon rain gets ideas.
