Eugene Island, North of, Atchafalaya Bay, LA Daily Water Report — August 24, 2026
Boating is the call north of Eugene Island today. Forecast scores put it at 8.5 out of 10, a clear step above the last two days, with light-to-moderate breeze, almost no sea, and a dry sky. Sailing and kayaking sit in the low sevens. Fishing, diving, and wildlife cluster in the mid-sixes. Surfing stays a 4.5 on water that will not stand up. The marine forecast keeps the bay small, 0.2 to 0.4 meters at periods barely over two and a half seconds, with the day’s calmest reading near 0.18 meters around 22:00. A representative west-southwest wind of 7 knots understates the swing: the range runs 3.9 to 15.4 knots, and the strongest gust, about 15.9 knots, is timed near 19:00. That evening bump is the real tradeoff for a small boat or kayak. An east-setting current near 0.4 meters per second will also walk you if you idle. Heat is the other tax. Air is forecast around 30.7 C and feeling closer to 36 C under high humidity, with marine surface water at 32.1 C, about 1.2 degrees above average. Skies look mostly clear, pressure is rising through 1017 hPa, and no rain is indicated. Atmospheric visibility is a wide 22.2 kilometers; that is air, not a read on the water column. A 0.61-meter high at 03:31 gives way to a 0.03-meter low at 19:34, so most of daylight is a long fall. Fishing is scored a 6 from solunar timing, tide state, pressure, wind, and available clarity; the stronger solunar windows are 09:03 to 11:03 and again after 21:03. Wildlife, scored on solunar, low-tide proximity, and wind, lands at 6.2, with that evening low as the shoreline hour. Diving holds at 6.6, unchanged from the prior two days, on light seas and very warm water. Yesterday sailing led the card at 9.2 with a bit more wind. Today the breeze is lighter and less even, and sailing slips to 7.4 even as kayaking improves from 5.5. Tomorrow through midweek the marine forecast stays tiny, but rain chances rise into the 50-to-60-percent range and a sharper 18.7-knot peak shows up on the 29th. Best bet: take the quieter morning for a boat run, and be headed in before that 19:00 gust and the leftover heat argue otherwise.
