Seavey Island, ME Daily Water Report — October 5, 2026

Seavey Island gets a qualified go for small-craft time today: kayaking is the standout at 9.2/10 and boating rates 8.6/10, but the day is much better before the late-afternoon wind arrives. The water is carrying a modest 0.7 m wave height on a short 6.65-second rhythm, with a 0.66 m swell from 112°. That is manageable rather than glassy, and the calmest seas were near midnight at 0.58 m. The most useful daylight window is from dawn through late morning. Sunrise is 6:44 AM, and the high tide at 7:19 AM lines up closely with the 7:31–9:31 AM solunar major period. That gives anglers the day’s cleanest overlap of tide timing and the fishing model’s better conditions, though fishing’s 6.6/10 is down from yesterday’s reconstructed 7.6/10. Pressure is falling from around 1015 hPa, and the forecast wind is set to build substantially later, so this is a “launch early, don’t negotiate with the afternoon” sort of day. Visibility is the main mood-killer: atmospheric visibility is only 0.3 km under full cloud cover, so navigation and shoreline orientation deserve extra attention. It does not describe underwater visibility. Divers receive a 7/10, supported by relatively light early wind, moderate seas, and 15.8 C marine water, but should treat the short-period swell and poor above-water visibility as real tradeoffs. The ocean current is light, about 0.08 m/s toward 45°, yet tides still move nearly 2.3 m between the early low and morning high. By late afternoon, wind can reach 15 knots with gusts up to 28 knots around 5 PM. Sailing is only a middling 5.2/10: enough breeze eventually, perhaps, but a wide gust spread and building chop are not a polished sailing invitation. The evening high tide at 7:36 PM overlaps the 7:31–9:31 PM solunar major period, but it also arrives after the strongest wind risk. Tomorrow through the weekend looks progressively calmer at sea, with waves generally falling into the 0.2–0.5 m range from Wednesday onward; winds remain mostly near 11–13 knots at peak. Best bet: launch shortly after dawn, work the morning high-tide window, and be back on land before the late-day gusts start acting important.
