Chesapeake City, MD Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026

Chesapeake City gets an emphatic green light for boating, paddling and diving today, with fishing respectable rather than spectacular and sailing workable if you can make peace with a light-air day. The water is nearly flat: waves sit around 0.08 m, with a 0.02 m swell and only a gentle NNW breeze near 6 knots. Boating leads the board at 8.9/10, kayaking is 8.0, and diving holds 8.4. Those are strong conditions, not a substitute for judgment around traffic, tide and cold-water exposure. The most useful daylight window runs from the morning high tide at 7:40 AM through the 8:45–10:45 AM solunar major period. It combines rising-to-falling water, stable 1022 hPa pressure and light wind without asking anyone to launch in the pre-dawn chill. A second fishing-oriented opportunity arrives around the 2:24 PM low and the 3:15–4:15 PM minor period, though the 8:10 PM high tide and 8:45–10:45 PM major period are better left to crews comfortable operating after sunset. Dawn is 6:37 AM; sunset is 6:41 PM. The tradeoff is temperature, not sea state. Air starts near 8 C and feels closer to 6 C in the representative conditions before reaching about 16.5 C. Marine SST is 20.2 C, essentially normal at 0.1 C below average, but that does not erase the need for appropriate immersion protection. Skies are forecast clear, rain is absent, and atmospheric visibility is excellent at 26.5 km—useful for navigation, but not a claim about underwater visibility. The strongest gust, about 13 knots, is early around 5 AM; winds otherwise remain light. By late evening, the forecast wave height bottoms out near zero. Compared with the reconstructed recent run, boating is back at the top end of its recent range, while kayaking eases from yesterday’s 9.3 as the breeze picks up. Fishing’s 6.9 trails the stronger 7.1–7.6 readings earlier this week, while diving remains unchanged at 8.4. The next several days stay notably calm, especially October 9–11, with near-zero forecast waves; warmer air arrives Thursday, while rain chances and stronger wind become more relevant by Sunday and Monday. Best bet: launch after the 7:40 AM high, enjoy the glassy water through midmorning, and bring one more warm layer than your optimism says you need.
