Oregon Inlet Marina, NC Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026

Oregon Inlet gets a clear green light for boats and sails today, with a qualified yes for paddlers and anglers who pick their timing. Boating leads at 8.2/10 and sailing follows at 8.1/10: a light NNE breeze, generally 2.7 to 8.6 knots, and modest 0.4–0.6 m seas make this one of those days when the water looks manageable without pretending it is asleep. The best all-around stretch is from dawn through late morning. Sunrise is 7:02 AM, and the 9:33–11:33 AM solunar major period overlaps the run toward the 12:34 PM low tide. Fishing rates 6.9/10, helped by that timing, light wind, and tide movement, though the falling barometer—1019 hPa early, easing lower through the day—keeps the outlook short of a runaway bite forecast. Another useful fishing window arrives around the 6:25 PM high tide, with the 4:03–5:03 PM minor period leading into it. Paddlers have a decent 6.8/10 day, but the roughly 0.44 m/s ocean current toward 243 degrees deserves respect, especially around tide changes. The short-period wind waves, about 0.42 m at 2.55 seconds, can add a little chop even while overall wave heights remain modest. For boaters, that is more nuisance than drama; for smaller craft, it is the part of the forecast that keeps the day honest. Seas ease toward their calmest forecast level, 0.4 m, near 10 PM. It will be dry and cloudless, with air warming from about 14 C to 20 C. Atmospheric visibility is forecast near 26.6 km, excellent for seeing where you are going, not a claim about what you can see below the surface. The marine SST is 22 C. Compared with the recent CatchWindow record, today’s lighter wind improves the boating and kayaking picture from yesterday, while sailing remains a notch below yesterday’s 9.2/10. Diving is not scored today, so it gets no recommendation from this report. Thursday stays relatively gentle with 0.4–0.5 m waves, while Friday remains fairly light before seas build Saturday and become notably rougher Sunday. Best bet: launch early, use the late-morning solunar window, and let the small chop—not the blue sky—set your pace.
