CatchWindow fishing intelligence
South Beach, OR Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026
South Beach gets a qualified green light today: excellent light-wind weather supports boating, kayaking and fishing, but the nearly 2-meter sea keeps this from being a casual-water day. Boating rates 7.4/10, kayaking 7.3 and fishing 7.5, while sailing is a more modest 5.8 because there simply is not much breeze to work with. The best all-around window is late morning, roughly 9:52 AM to noon, overlapping the 10:59 AM high tide and a solunar major period. Winds are light through much of the day, with a representative west wind near 1 knot and no rain indicated. Stable pressure near 1017 hPa, clear skies and 12.2 km atmospheric visibility add up to pleasant surface conditions, though that visibility figure says nothing about underwater clarity. The second solunar major period, 9:52 PM to 11:52 PM, lines up closely with the 10:54 PM high tide for anglers who are prepared for darkness and changing shoreline conditions. The catch is offshore energy. Waves run 1.5 to 2.0 meters, with a 1.48-meter swell at 11.2 seconds from 294 degrees and short 0.6-meter wind waves mixed in. That is enough motion to make exposed launches, bar crossings and nearshore work demanding even when the wind feels almost suspiciously polite. The calmest wave height, about 1.48 meters, is near midnight—not a reason to treat the water as calm. Winds may gust to 13 knots around 6 PM, adding a late-day wrinkle. Diving earns 6.8/10, workable but not ideal given the wave action and cool 13.6 C marine SST. The ocean is about 2 C above its average, but it is still cold-water territory. Wildlife scores 7.2, with the 4:51 PM low tide and the 4:22–5:22 AM minor period offering useful timing cues. Compared with the reconstructed recent run, boating is close to yesterday’s 7.3 but below the stronger 8-plus days earlier in the week; kayaking also slips from yesterday’s 7.8 as seas build. Thursday stays similarly lumpy near 2 meters, Friday brings rain chances and stronger wind, and Saturday looks rougher still. The cleaner-looking marine window arrives Sunday into Monday, especially Monday’s 1.4–1.6 meter waves. Best bet: fish or boat the late-morning high-tide window, enjoying the light wind but giving the 2-meter sea the respect it has plainly earned.
