Conimicut Light, RI Daily Water Report — September 5, 2026
Conimicut Light favors divers, boaters, and sailors today, with diving at 8.4, boating at 8.1, and sailing at 7.9 on a dry, nearly still coastal day. Surfing is the clear miss at 4.8: waves hold around 0.1 to 0.14 meters with a 4-second period and a 0.1-meter swell from the south, so there is almost nothing to ride. That same hush is what lifts diving and boating—light wind, tiny seas, no rain in the forecast, and a marine surface temperature of 21.5 C sitting on the seasonal average. The best practical window opens after the morning gust. Representative wind is 7 knots from the northeast in a 2-to-9-knot range, but the strongest gust, 15.7 knots, is due around 08:00, coinciding with the 0.19-meter low at 07:53 and a major solunar period from 06:44 to 08:44. After that punch fades, the water stays essentially flat—the calmest reading is 0.1 meters near 07:00, and the day’s wave range never really leaves that floor. Air runs 17.2 to 24.0 C under about 36 percent cloud, pressure is 1011 hPa and rising, and there is no precipitation indicated. Atmospheric visibility is 21.3 kilometers; that is not a statement about what you can see underwater. Fishing sits at a middling 5.9, a notch above yesterday’s 5.4 but well off the 6.8 to 7.2 stretch earlier in the week when pressure ran higher. Wildlife is 6.7, drawing on that morning low and the solunar timing rather than any wildlife count. Kayaking slips to 6.4 from 7.7 yesterday; a 0.6 m/s current setting toward 288 degrees is the tradeoff on otherwise small water. A second major period runs 18:44 to 20:44 ahead of the 0.34-meter low at 21:48, with sunset at 19:16. Sailing’s jump from 6.1 yesterday reflects more usable wind today, not bigger seas. Tomorrow cools and carries a 49 percent chance of rain, then a drier, warmer stretch returns with still-tiny waves through the 8th before seas build toward 0.5 to 0.6 meters later in the week. Best bet: launch or drop in after that 08:00 gust and let the flat, dry water carry the day.
