Conimicut Light, RI Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026

Conimicut Light gets a clear green light for sailing, boating and diving today, with a yellow-light caveat for smaller craft: the water is low and manageable, but the WNW breeze has enough gust in it to keep paddlers honest. Forecast waves sit around 0.26 m, driven mostly by short 0.24 m wind waves at just 1.8 seconds, with only a token 0.04 m swell. That is a tidy surface by October standards, and the marine forecast keeps the day in a 0.1–0.3 m range before the calmest water arrives near 11 PM at 0.1 m. The tradeoff is wind. A representative 12-knot WNW flow, gusting near 21 knots, includes a strongest forecast gust of 23.7 knots around 8 AM. Sailing rates an excellent 8.9/10 on that mix of breeze, small waves and clear skies; boating is 7.9/10 and diving 8.4/10. Those scores are suitability guides, not a substitute for judgment, gear, or a proper float plan. For anglers, the 6.2/10 fishing outlook is respectable rather than electric. The strongest timing is the 8:26–10:26 AM solunar major period, overlapping the 10:23 AM low tide, followed by the 2:56–3:56 PM minor period as water builds toward the 5:21 PM high. Pressure is rising through the day, from roughly 1015 to 1019 hPa, and no rain is indicated. The air will feel sharper than the thermometer suggests: about 9.8 C with a representative feels-like temperature near 4.6 C, despite a dry, cloud-free forecast and atmospheric visibility near 31.9 km. That visibility says nothing about underwater clarity. Kayaking scores 6.6/10, down from 8.2 yesterday and the recent run of lighter-wind days, so choose sheltered water and give the morning gusts their due. The marine SST is 17.9 C, about 0.4 C above average, but it is still cold-water season in practical terms. The next several days remain generally small-wave affairs. Wednesday may still gust to 16.3 knots; Thursday through Saturday look progressively lighter, with Saturday’s 6.8-knot peak wind and 0.1–0.2 m waves standing out as the gentlest forecast combination. Best bet: rig the sailboat or launch the powerboat after the early gustiest stretch, and enjoy a bright, brisk afternoon building toward the 5:21 PM high.
