Aransas Wildlife Refuge, TX Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026

It’s a solid go day for boats and sails, with a more conditional green light for paddlers and anglers. North wind around 10 knots, occasionally gusting near 20 early, is putting enough texture on the water to keep this from being a lazy float, but the 0.4–0.5 m wave range remains manageable for appropriately equipped crews. Sailing leads the board at 8.5/10, while boating earns 8.2/10; both benefit from dry weather, clear skies, and modest seas. The smoothest water is forecast near 1 PM, when waves ease to about 0.42 m. That is the cleanest practical window for kayaking, which rates 6.5/10, and for divers looking to take advantage of warm 28.8 C marine water and a 7.8/10 diving outlook. The short-period wind waves—about 0.28 m at two seconds—can still make exposed water feel busier than the headline wave height suggests, especially when the northerly breeze is gusting. Atmospheric visibility is forecast near 15.5 km, but that is not a measure of underwater visibility. Anglers have a middling 5.9/10 setup, unchanged from yesterday. The strongest timing comes during the 9:13–11:13 AM solunar major period, with a second major window from 9:13–11:13 PM. Tide movement is subtle: low water was 0.17 m at 2:40 AM, with only a 0.24 m high due at 5:29 PM. Falling pressure near 1014 hPa adds another variable rather than a clear advantage. Wildlife timing is best around the late-afternoon minor period, 3:43–4:43 PM, close to the high tide, though wind remains part of the tradeoff. Compared with the recent CatchWindow record, boating improves sharply from yesterday’s 6.7/10 and sailing rises from 7.5/10, while fishing holds steady. Kayaking is only slightly better than yesterday but remains below the calmer conditions seen earlier in the week. Wednesday stays favorable with 0.3–0.5 m waves and lighter peak wind near 10 knots. Conditions trend choppier Friday, then ease notably by Sunday, when waves are forecast at 0.3–0.4 m and peak wind near 9 knots. Best bet: launch after the morning gusts settle, use the early-afternoon lull for the calmest water, and let the sailboats enjoy the breeze they were promised.
