Packery Channel favors divers today, then boaters and sailors, and it leaves surfers with little to work with. Diving leads at 9.1 out of 10 on light wind, short leftover chop, and warm surface water; boating and sailing sit near 8. Surfing is a 4.7 because the sea is small and short-period, not because the wind is wrong. The cleanest stretch is mid-morning. Forecast waves ease to their daily minimum near 10:00 at 0.36 meters, the high tide of 0.16 meters arrives at 11:50, and a major solunar window runs 09:26 to 11:26. Representative wind is only 8 knots from the SSE under a cloudless sky, with no rain indicated and pressure rising through 1016 hPa. Marine surface temperature is 30.3 C, about 0.8 C cooler than average. Atmospheric visibility is 26.5 km; that is air clarity, not a read on the water column. Chlorophyll is a moderate 0.66 mg/m3, which speaks only to normal coastal productivity. Heat and current are the real tradeoffs. Air is a representative 32.5 C and feels like 38.4 C, with UV at 7, so the Gulf is the more comfortable place to be. A 0.6 m/s current sets toward 18 degrees, enough to matter if you are drifting or working a dive. After dark the wind can gust to 16.9 knots around 23:00, which makes the late major solunar period the sloppier of the two. Fishing is a middling 6.3 and kayaking 6.2; neither is a reason to stay home, but neither is the day’s argument. Against the last two days, diving has held at 9.1 while boating has stepped up from 7.3 on the 22nd and 7.8 yesterday. Fishing has eased from 7.3, sailing has come off its 9.2, and wildlife has cooled from 8.4. Kayaking is a notch better than either prior day. Through the 30th the marine forecast stays small, 0.3 to 0.7 meters, with dry air, hotter afternoons, and peak winds slowly building toward 15 knots. Best bet: take the 10 o’clock lull, get in while Packery is still a pond, and leave the board in the rack.
