Rockport, TX Daily Water Report — October 5, 2026

Rockport gets a qualified green light today: sailing and diving lead the board, while boaters, anglers and paddlers can make a good day of it if they respect the NNE breeze and its early punch. This is workable water, not a day to confuse a decent forecast with a free pass. The most comfortable stretch should be after the morning gustiness eases. Winds range from about 8 to 14 knots, but gusts reach 28 knots around 7 AM, with a representative NNE wind near 13 knots and gusts to 25. Waves are modest at roughly 0.4 to 0.6 m, though their short 3.7-second period and 0.46 m wind-wave component can keep exposed water a little choppy. The calmest forecast wave height is about 0.42 m near 10 PM, but darkness is not a substitute for a plan. Sailing earns 7.4/10, with enough breeze to be useful but enough gust spread to demand tidy sail handling. Diving is 7.6/10, supported by warm 29 C marine water and relatively low seas; that score is not a safety declaration, and atmospheric visibility of 15.5 km says nothing about underwater visibility. Boating rates 6.7/10 and kayaking 6/10, both pulled down from the stronger recent run by today’s wind and current. The ocean current is forecast near 0.36 m/s toward 214 degrees, another reason small craft should keep routes conservative. For fishing, the 6.5/10 outlook gets its best timing from the 8:21–10:21 AM major solunar period, which overlaps the approach to the 11:13 AM high tide. A second major period runs 8:21–10:21 PM, after the 10 PM low tide, but it comes with limited light. Pressure is stable near 1015 hPa, and no rain window is indicated. Compared with the last few days, this is windier than October 2–4, when representative winds stayed near 6–7 knots; boating and kayaking scores have accordingly slipped. Tomorrow looks gentler, with 0.3–0.4 m waves and peak wind near 11 knots, before wind and rain chances trend upward midweek. Best bet: launch after the early gusts settle, fish the late-morning tide push, and leave enough margin for the NNE chop on the ride home.
