Boats, sails, and divers get the nod off Sabine Offshore Light today; surfers do not. Boating leads at 8.2 out of 10, sailing at 8, and diving at 7.9. Fishing is a middling 6.1, kayaking 6.5, wildlife 6, and surfing a flat 4.8 on short, small energy. Those numbers are suitability scores, not a safety stamp. Forecast and current conditions describe a hot, dry, mostly open sky: air holding 30 to 31 C that already feels like 36, humidity near 74 percent, about a quarter cloud, and no rain indicated. Pressure is stable around 1017 hPa. A representative west wind of 8 knots will not last. The day’s range runs about 5 to 17 knots, with the strongest gust near 18 knots at 18:00, so the easier water is morning through early afternoon. Waves stay 0.3 to 0.5 meters, calmest near 13:00 at 0.3 meters. Combined period is only about 3.5 seconds, and the southwest swell is 0.36 meters at 2.7 seconds, with almost no wind sea on top. Wildlife scoring also leans on that evening low and the wind, without promising a show. Atmospheric visibility is long, near 24 kilometers, which is not the same as seeing well underwater. Against yesterday’s reconstructed numbers, fishing slipped from 7.8, sailing eased from 9.2, and boating and kayaking improved on a lighter representative wind than yesterday’s 15 knots. Diving held at 7.9. Through midweek the forecast stays similarly hot and nearly dry, peak winds still in the mid-teens, and waves remaining half a meter or less, with only a modest rain chance arriving around the 27th. Best bet: take the boat or a diver through that midday 0.3-meter lull, and be headed in before the 18:00 gust writes the last line.
