Sabine Offshore Light, TX Daily Water Report — October 5, 2026
Sabine Offshore Light gets a qualified green light today: excellent sailing weather, workable boating and paddling for experienced crews, and a decent dive window—but it is not a soft-water day. Northeast wind is running around 19 knots, with gusts near 21 and a stronger 24.5-knot gust recorded around midnight. That breeze is building most of the sea state: waves are 0.84 m on a short 3.65-second period, with 0.78 m wind waves. Translation: lively, close-together chop rather than a long, easy roll. The best all-around water window is late afternoon, when waves ease to the day’s minimum near 0.7 m around 16:00. That lines up closely with the 17:40 low tide, though the falling-water phase may add its own complications around exposed structure and passes. The day begins with a 0.84 m high tide at 00:56, then drains steadily. Current is forecast at 0.25 m/s toward 233 degrees, enough to factor into route and drift planning rather than ignore. Sailing leads the board at 8.8/10, unchanged from yesterday and well ahead of the other scored activities. Boating rates 6.1 and kayaking 5.9, both down from October 4 as the breeze and chop ask more of small craft. Diving remains respectable at 7.4, just below yesterday’s 7.6; warm water helps, with SST near 29–30 C, but surface conditions may make entry, exit, and boat handling the limiting parts of the plan. Fishing is a middling 5.8, with the stronger solunar window from 08:08 to 10:08 and another after dark from 20:08 to 22:08. Stable pressure near 1015 hPa is a modest plus, while the wind is the louder voice. Cloud cover is solid and UV is nil, with no rain indicated. Atmospheric visibility is forecast near 14.4 km, useful above water but not a promise of underwater clarity. The reported chlorophyll is high, but it should not be read as a fish forecast. The next two days look somewhat friendlier, with lower peak winds and 0.4–0.8 m seas Tuesday, then 0.5–0.7 m Wednesday. Conditions trend rougher again Thursday through Saturday before a notably lighter-wind Sunday. Best bet: rig the sail early or plan a late-afternoon run, and treat the short-period chop with the respect it is plainly requesting.
