CBBT, Chesapeake Channel, VA Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026
This is a notably good small-craft day in the Chesapeake Channel: boating earns the clearest green light at 9/10, with kayaking also strong at 8.2/10. The water is running unusually tame for an exposed channel forecast, holding around 0.2–0.3 m through the day and bottoming near 0.22 m around 1 PM. A light northeast breeze early, clear skies, no rain indicated, and air temperatures rising from about 15 C to 19 C make the daylight hours inviting rather than heroic. The best all-around window is late morning through early afternoon, after the 6:25 AM high and around the 12:30 PM low. That period combines the day’s smallest forecast waves with mild weather and broad daylight. The 9:36–11:36 AM solunar major period adds a favorable timing cue for anglers; fishing rates 6.9/10, solid but not a blank-check forecast. Pressure is falling from around 1020 hPa, and the channel’s forecast ocean current is about 0.47 m/s toward 302 degrees, so boaters and paddlers should still plan around moving water rather than mistake a low wave forecast for slack conditions. Diving rates 7.6/10, helped by light wind, low seas and a marine temperature near 21.5 C. That is a step down from several recent reconstructed daily scores of 8.5–8.8, so conditions look workable rather than peak-form. Atmospheric visibility is excellent near 30.6 km, but that says nothing about underwater visibility. Sailing, at 6.2/10, gets the tradeoff of the day: smooth water, but not much breeze to work with early. Wind builds later, with the strongest gust forecast near 18 knots around 9 PM; evening crews should expect a different feel from the placid midday setup. The next two days remain relatively flat at 0.2–0.3 m, though winds may reach about 18 knots Thursday. Seas build Friday into the weekend, reaching 0.5–0.9 m Sunday alongside a wetter, gustier forecast. Best bet: launch late morning, enjoy the glassy early-afternoon water, and be back with a plan before the evening wind starts trying to rewrite the day.
