CatchWindow fishing intelligence
Money Point, VA Daily Water Report — October 8, 2026
Money Point gets a firm green light for boating, paddling and diving, with a caveat for sailors: the water is exceptionally flat, but there is not much wind to work with. Boating leads the board at 9/10, kayaking rates 8.2, and diving 8.4. Those are suitability estimates, not safety guarantees, but the ingredients are hard to argue with: no rain indicated, near-clear skies, a representative SSW breeze of 5 knots, and essentially no meaningful wave action. Marine guidance holds wave height around 0.04 m, with only 0.02 m of wind wave. The best all-around daylight window is after the morning high tide at 8:15 AM and before the afternoon low at 2:28 PM, when there is plenty of light and the water should remain remarkably quiet. Wind gusts are the one small wrinkle, with the day’s strongest forecast gust near 17.5 knots around 9 AM; that is not a reason to write off the day, but it is a good reason to secure loose gear and avoid treating the early morning as glassy by default. Air temperatures climb sharply from around 12 C into the upper 20s C, so layers will earn their keep at launch and become excess baggage by afternoon. Fishing is a respectable 6.5/10 rather than a runaway standout. The 10:22 AM–12:22 PM solunar major period lines up well with the daytime tide cycle, while the late-evening major period runs 10:22 PM to midnight. Pressure is rising from about 1014 hPa, another useful piece of the fishing picture, though not a promise of action. For divers, the 22.4 C marine sea-surface temperature and minimal surface disturbance support the 8.4 score. Atmospheric visibility is forecast at 15.5 km, but that is not an underwater-visibility reading. The reported current is about 0.14 m/s toward 225 degrees, so plan around it rather than assuming a motionless water column. Compared with the recent CatchWindow run, boating remains near its excellent recent level, while fishing is a touch softer than yesterday’s 6.9. Sailing is also slightly down at 6.8, mostly because light air makes for polite rather than punchy sailing. Friday and Saturday stay calm and mostly dry, then Sunday brings stronger wind, 0.2–0.3 m waves, and an 80% precipitation chance. Best bet: launch after the morning high, enjoy the nearly wrinkle-free water, and be back with dry gear before Sunday remembers it is autumn.
