Windmill Point, VA Daily Water Report — October 8, 2026
Windmill Point gets a qualified green light today: excellent for sailing and solid for boating, with more selective windows for paddlers, anglers and divers. The water is small, not necessarily sleepy—waves run 0.1 to 0.3 m, with short 2-second wind chop—but the southwest wind builds enough to make the early part of the day the better all-round play. Before midmorning, conditions should be most manageable after the 3:56 AM low and into the 9:50 AM high tide. Winds range from light to moderate through the day, but the strongest gusts reach 21 knots around 6 AM, so “early” does not mean automatic glass. Sailors have the day’s strongest fit at 8.8/10: enough southwest breeze to work with, modest waves, dry weather and clear skies. Boaters also rate well at 8/10, though the gust spread deserves more respect than the 0.3 m wave height alone suggests. Kayakers get a 6.5/10, a noticeable step down from yesterday’s 8.2/10, largely because today’s wind is more assertive. Pick sheltered water and avoid treating the evening’s calmer 0.06 m wave minimum near 7 PM as a guarantee of easy paddling; wind and local exposure still matter. Divers hold steady at 7.6/10, with 20.7 C marine water and low waves helping the score, but atmospheric visibility of 20.6 km is not an underwater-visibility reading. Chlorophyll is very high at 5.11 mg/m³, indicating bloom conditions, another reason to assess actual water clarity on site. Fishing rates 6.3/10, below the recent 6.7–7.4 range. The strongest timing is the 10:23 AM–12:23 PM solunar major period, spanning the late-morning high-water phase, with another major window from 10:23 PM to midnight. Pressure is rising from around 1012 hPa, and the day stays rain-free, but wind is the tradeoff. Shoreline explorers and wildlife watchers have a useful low-tide opportunity around 4:25 PM; wildlife scores 7.1/10. Friday looks notably quieter, with waves up to 0.2 m and peak wind near 10.5 knots. Saturday remains generally manageable, while Sunday turns rougher and wetter with winds near 25 knots and waves up to 0.7 m. Best bet: rig the sailboat for a brisk, dry late morning, then let the 9:50 AM high tide and 10:23 AM solunar window do the scheduling.
