Bondi Beach, NSW Daily Water Report — October 8, 2026
Bondi is workable rather than brilliant on the water today: boating, kayaking and diving lead the board at 6.7, 6.6 and 6.6/10, while the surf gets a modest 4/10. The deciding feature is a manageable but not tiny 1.3–1.7 m sea, driven mainly by 1.4 m of southeast swell at a shortish 7.15 seconds. That is enough movement to keep small craft, entries and exits honest, even with generally light WSW winds. The best all-round window looks to be late afternoon, when the forecast sea reaches its daily minimum near 1.34 m around 17:00. Winds remain relatively restrained through the day, though gusts are forecast to top out at 17.3 knots around 15:00, so the middle of the afternoon may be less tidy than the representative 5-knot wind suggests. For paddlers and boaters, the 0.11 m/s west-setting current is modest but still part of the arithmetic, particularly near shore and when returning through moving water. No rain is indicated, and atmospheric visibility is near 16 km, though the heavy cloud cover means it will feel more grey than glamorous. Divers have an 18.7 C marine temperature to work with, but today’s 1.5 m-plus wave environment is a meaningful downgrade from the exceptionally strong diving scores of the previous few days. Kayaking and boating are also down from the calmer conditions recorded on October 5–6, although both recover well from yesterday’s windier 15.2-knot setup. Surfing remains limited by the moderate, relatively short-period swell; the score is a regional estimate and not a safety call or a promise of a particular break’s performance. Fishing rates 6.4/10, with the late-morning solunar major period from 10:10 to 12:10 the clearest timing cue. The 16:40–17:40 minor period overlaps the easing sea, offering a sensible second look. Tide data is unavailable, so don’t pretend the missing piece is in the tackle box. Friday stays similar at 1.3–1.6 m, then the weekend trends smaller, with 0.8–1.3 m Saturday and sub-metre seas Sunday; rain chances rise from Saturday onward. Best bet: take the late-afternoon easing sea seriously—good for a measured paddle, boat run or dive plan, but not a day to mistake “light wind” for flat water.
