CatchWindow fishing intelligence

Seavey Island, ME Daily Water Report — October 8, 2026

Good day for boats and paddles, with a qualified yes for fishing and diving—but treat the morning gusts and the big tidal swing with respect. Boating rates strongest at 8.5/10 and kayaking 8.1/10, supported by modest 0.3–0.5 m seas and a generally light southerly wind. The catch is that “generally” does some work: gusts could reach 24.7 knots around 10 AM, right as the tide tops out at 2.67 m at 10:16 AM. The cleanest all-round water window looks to be late afternoon into evening. Rain is forecast from 8 to 10 AM, the roughest gust potential is centered near 10 AM, and waves ease toward their daily minimum near 8 PM, around 0.34 m. That makes the period after the 4:19 PM low tide a sensible choice for a quieter launch or shoreline session, with water rising toward the 10:38 PM high. Daylight lasts until 6:15 PM, with useful twilight through 6:44 PM. Fishing is a 6/10 proposition, down from yesterday’s 7/10 in CatchWindow’s reconstructed history. The stronger major solunar period runs 9:59–11:59 AM, overlapping the morning’s rain and gustier conditions, while the 9:59–11:59 PM period arrives after dark. Pressure is rising from a low near 1007 hPa toward roughly 1014 hPa, a more encouraging trend than the raw morning number suggests. The 15 C marine sea-surface temperature remains slightly above average by 0.3 C. Diving scores 7/10, but that is not a promise of clear underwater conditions. Atmospheric visibility is forecast at 15.5 km, which says nothing direct about sub-surface visibility; the available ocean chlorophyll reading is very high at 8.57 mg/m³, consistent with bloom conditions. Divers should also account for the short-period wind waves and the 0.25 m/s current toward 53 degrees. Compared with the recent run, the water remains friendly for small craft but is less settled than the very light-wind days earlier this week. Friday and Saturday look even smoother, with 0.2–0.4 m waves and dry forecasts; conditions become more energetic by Tuesday and especially Wednesday. Best bet: launch after the late-afternoon low, enjoy the easing chop before dusk, and let the morning gusts have the first shift.
