Conimicut Light, RI Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026

Conimicut Light gets a strong green light for small-boat and paddle plans today, with the caveat that the pleasant part of the day is front-loaded and the evening wind deserves respect. Boating rates 9.3/10 and kayaking 8.8/10 on a notably quiet marine setup: representative wind is just 4 knots from the NNW, waves are around 0.06 m, and the day’s calmest water is forecast near 7 AM at 0.04 m. That is about as close to a glassy October invitation as the forecast gets. The best all-around window runs from dawn through late morning. First light arrives around 6:20 AM, sunrise is 6:48 AM, and the tide rises to a 1.40 m high at 5:51 AM before ebbing toward the 11:26 AM low. Air temperatures start chilly near 5 C, with a representative feels-like temperature of 2.7 C, so the water may be calm but the launch ramp will not be tropical. Dress for the air, not just the 17.5 C marine sea-surface temperature. Fishing earns a respectable 7/10, with the 9:15-11:15 AM solunar major period lining up neatly with the late-morning low tide. A second major period arrives from 9:15-11:15 PM, though winds are forecast to build later, with the strongest gust near 20 knots around 8 PM. Pressure is falling from a representative 1018 hPa, another reason to treat the evening as a more changeable proposition rather than a guaranteed encore. Sailing is workable at 6.6/10, but light wind is the limiting factor early; the later breeze may provide more drive at the cost of gustier handling. Atmospheric visibility is forecast near 22.8 km under clear skies, excellent for seeing where you are going, though it says nothing about underwater visibility. Diving is not scored today, so there is no recommendation there. Compared with yesterday’s reconstructed history, today is much calmer in wind—4 knots representative versus 12.3—and boating and kayaking scores improve sharply, while sailing eases back from yesterday’s stronger-wind 8.9. The next few days stay relatively small-water, with Friday and Saturday offering 0.1-0.3 m waves; Thursday trends breezier, and Sunday into Monday looks wetter and somewhat lumpier. Best bet: launch shortly after sunrise, enjoy the near-flat morning water, and be back on the trailer before the evening gusts decide they want a turn.
