Tofino Harbour, BC Daily Water Report — October 6, 2026
Tofino Harbour gets a clear green light for paddlers and boaters today, with the important asterisk that the ocean is still carrying a modest 1.2–1.3 m swell. Winds are exceptionally light—generally under 6 kn, with the strongest gusts near 11 kn around 5 PM—and no rain is indicated. That combination earns kayaking the day’s best activity score at 8.4/10, while boating follows at 7.9/10. Calm air does not erase moving water or swell, but it does make for a notably manageable harbour day. The early start is the quietest marine window: wave height is forecast to bottom out around 1.16 m near 4 AM, close to the 0.81 m low tide at 4:02 AM. For daylight users, the rising tide through the morning and the 10:29 AM high of 3.09 m line up neatly with the 9:11–11:11 AM solunar major period. Fishing rates 6.9/10, its strongest setup of the recent week, helped by light wind and stable pressure around 1022 hPa. That is a timing advantage, not a promise of catches. Diving is a respectable 7/10, better than the past several days, with light wind and a 13.2 C marine temperature helping the overall setup. Still, the 1.04 m west swell and 1.2 m-plus sea state are the tradeoff; atmospheric visibility of 12.2 km should not be mistaken for underwater clarity. Wildlife viewing scores 7.3/10, with another useful timing overlap around the afternoon low tide at 4:26 PM and the 3:41–4:41 PM solunar minor period. Sailing is the odd one out at 4.7/10: pleasant enough for being afloat, but there is simply not much breeze to work with. Cloud cover is heavy near 90%, though temperatures should reach about 16 C after a cool 9 C start. Compared with recent CatchWindow estimates, today improves on yesterday for fishing, boating, kayaking, and diving, while wildlife slips a little from yesterday’s stronger 7.8/10. Wednesday and Thursday remain light-wind prospects but with larger 1.3–1.8 m waves; Friday looks like the weather turn, with stronger wind, rain chances, and seas potentially reaching 3.5 m. The calmer-looking marine stretch returns Sunday into Monday. Best bet: launch after dawn and work the rising tide into late morning—quiet wind, stable pressure, and the day’s best all-round water window.
