Tofino Harbour, BC Daily Water Report — October 7, 2026
Tofino Harbour is a good go for sheltered-water plans today, with kayaking the standout at 8.3/10 and boating close behind at 7.6/10. The wind is barely making a case for itself—generally 0.2 to 6.7 knots from the southeast—while no rain is indicated and pressure is steady near 1021 hPa. That is a friendly setup for paddlers, small-boat crews and shoreline explorers who prefer their weather uneventful. The catch is offshore energy. Waves are running about 1.4 to 1.8 m, driven mainly by a 1.26 m west swell at 7.65 seconds, rather than local wind chop. In a harbour that may be manageable depending on exposure, but it is not a reason to get casual around entrances, exposed shorelines or surge-prone rocks. Wind waves are only 0.1 m, yet the swell still gets the final word. Marine water is 13.3 C, so divers have a respectable 6.8/10 day, but should treat the water temperature and swell as the real terms of the agreement. The 13.3 km atmospheric visibility is decent under mostly cloudy skies; it says nothing about underwater visibility. The best all-round daylight window is late morning through early afternoon, centered on the 11:13 AM high tide and overlapping the 10 AM–noon solunar major period. Fishing rates 6.9/10, unchanged from yesterday, with light wind and stable pressure supporting a steady rather than spectacular outlook. Wildlife scores 7.9/10, helped by the low-wind setup and the late-afternoon low tide at 5:20 PM; the 4:30–5:30 PM solunar minor period adds a useful timing cue for shoreline exploration. Sailing is the weak link at 5.2/10: calm water is pleasant, but there is simply not much breeze to work with, and gusts may reach 14.2 knots around 10 PM. Compared with recent CatchWindow estimates, kayaking is essentially steady, boating is a touch below yesterday’s 7.9, and diving remains near its recent best. Thursday brings more wind and a 34% rain chance; Friday looks wetter and rougher, with waves up to 2.8 m. The calmer marine stretch arrives Sunday and Monday, when waves are forecast near 1.0–1.2 m. Best bet: launch after dawn, work the harbour around the late-morning high, and be back before the evening low turns exposed edges into a swell lesson.
